The art club at Cardinal Valley Elementary this week is finishing a colorful mural on the footbridge at nearby Valley Park. Students just need to add a few small details and apply an exterior varnish to complete their community project.
Friends of Wolf Run, a grassroots network striving to improve the watershed, had sought Cardinal Valley’s help at Vaughn’s Branch. Students of visual art teacher Michelle Armstrong happily created a mural design to submit to the LFUCG Public Arts Commission. And after winning the city’s approval, the art club got down to business – and fun, too.
“The students really had a great time. When school let out, several other Cardinal Valley students showed up and complimented the art club on their work,” Armstrong said after a recent outing to the park. “We hope that our mural will encourage people who visit the creek to help keep it clean and free of trash,” she added.
